Quarterly Real Estate Market Report

The City of Chilliwack undertook a year-long video production project to promote Chilliwack and encourage the advancement of our local economy. The video project showcases year-round activities and business opportunities in the City of Chilliwack. A local film producer, Bob Fugger was retained to highlight the advantages and prospects in Chilliwack. Bob was chosen to produce the video for his award-winning skills, and being a "local", allowed him to portray Chilliwack's finest qualities. The video took a year in the making to complete, so that all seasons and most community events could be portrayed and incorporated into the production. The target audience is tourists, potential residents and entrepreneurs.

The video opens with a summary of all of the categories that are covered, some of which include a brief history of Chilliwack, scenic photographs of year-round adventures and activities, recreation opportunities available to all levels of sports enthusiasts, local industries and business, and the life-style that residents can enjoy. Each section is introduced using a title page, making the viewing of the video very relaxing and easy to understand.

The video illustrates that historic downtown Chilliwack remains the heart and soul of our community. Many of the heritage buildings in downtown Chilliwack house specialty boutiques, gift and antique stores, coffee shops and restaurants. The video also exemplifies that it is as important to maintain the reflective image of heritage Chilliwack, as it is to grow into a prosperous community. Therefore, the "Discover Chilliwack" theme entices viewers to desire the experience of the history, as well as the current development in Chilliwack.

The video exhibits overall growth and development of:

1. Tourism The primary goal of this year-long project is to enhance the tourism industry of Chilliwack. The video targets potential tourists as it presents the City's fun-filled family attractions, world-class sports fishing, beautiful lakes, hiking and biking trails, stunning golf vacations for all skill levels, and fantastic festivals. This project also shows that Chilliwack offers an abundance of opportunity for extreme sports and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
   
   It was the City of Chilliwack's desire in producing this video to show that we can satisfy anyone's yearning for travel and adventure during the time they spend with us. The video clearly indicates that there is no shortage of services to make any visitor's stay comfortable and enjoyable with a wide range of facilities.
   
   
2. Agriculture The video shows that our vibrant agricultural sector offers an opportunity to observe and experience working farms involved in a wide range agricultural activities; with dairy farming being the largest agricultural industry. As the video travels through Chilliwack, you can't miss seeing the legacy of our agricultural heritage as a relaxed country lifestyle with a picturesque, open rural landscape.
   
   
3. Recreation The adventure possibilities in Chilliwack are never-ending. Lakes, streams and rivers host fabulous fishing and refreshing leisure, and over 90 parks provide ample green space for enjoyment and relaxation. Ski hills, numerous golf courses, cycling and walking trails, mountain excursions and river rafting are just a few of the outdoor adventures available at our fingertips. Chilliwack hosts a vibrant and diverse arts community, with more than 80 clubs for all ages and abilities.
   
   
4. Business Local industries and business reflect Chilliwack's commitment to maintain its natural beauty, while sustaining a healthy attitude and a growing economy. There are over 1,000 businesses in industrial sectors in Chilliwack. The combination of technology and manufacturing work together with the agricultural industry, providing a broad base for employment and business development, while maintaining a high quality of life. Chilliwack's close proximity to Vancouver and the US boarder make it an attractive location for expansion and relocation.
   
   
5. Residential Residents of Chilliwack have the choice of a wide variety of neighbourhoods to call home. Whether residents choose to live on the lakeshore, along the river, on the mountain-sides, in the downtown core, or in one of our many suburbs, the lush and beautiful valley is everyone's backyard. Chilliwack is a place where children can play, families can grow and lifetime memories can be experienced.
   
   
6. Education Chilliwack is fortunate to have its own campus of the University College of the Fraser Valley, which provides students the opportunity to further their post-secondary education and obtain a full university degree. We also have 22 elementary schools, 5 middle schools and 2 senior high schools. The recent construction of community schools in new residential developments allows for education instruction to students during the day, as well as the use of the schools for community events during off-school hours.
   

The Discover Chilliwack video will be made available to visitors, entrepreneurs, service groups, potential residents, and real estate agents and organizations that share in the concern and promotion of Chilliwack. It will also be taken on visits to other municipalities and trade groups, and the summarized introduction will be used in many future PowerPoint presentations. The video has been electronically produced so that the City can create new versions, as required.

During the upcoming year, the video will be provided to individuals and organizations that show an interest in obtaining further information regarding Chilliwack. The City will be using the video as an additional tool in our public relations interests, and the video was made in such a way that individual sections can easily be segregated for specific use in a variety of public presentations, depending on the topic.
